Ghanaians No Longer Trust Judiciary Under Current Chief Justice Torkonoo- Mustapha Gbande

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has added his voice to growing calls for the removal of Ghana’s Chief Justice, describing her as a major obstacle to justice delivery and a symbol of political interference in the judiciary.

Reacting to a petition submitted by President John Dramani Mahama to the Council of State, Gbande issued a scathing critique of the Chief Justice’s tenure, alleging that her position is part of a broader scheme orchestrated by former President Akufo-Addo to protect certain individuals from legal accountability.

“The current Chief Justice is a complete blockage to justice delivery because of her posturing and who she is,” Gbande stated. “She is a whole machinery of a window of escape set out by former President Akufo-Addo to grant immunity to persons who would otherwise be sent to court.”

Gbande emphasized that calls for her removal are not politically motivated, but rather a reflection of widespread public disapproval.

“Nobody wants her removed except the citizens of Ghana,” he said. “It is even delaying. I want to see her removed.”

He questioned her qualifications and credibility to continue serving in the judiciary’s highest office, saying,

“She doesn’t have the gravitas, fortification, integrity, or credibility to be there. In the eyes of every Ghanaian, she is politically exposed.”

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, also pointed out the lack of neutral support for the Chief Justice amid recent petitions.

“When President Mahama passed the petition to the Council of State, the only people making noise were from the NPP. No single neutral person has defended her,” Gbande claimed.
