TEMA, Ghana, 5th September: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on Ghanaians to resist any attempt to return the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to power, saying citizens may have to resort to fasting and prayers to prevent such a development.
According to Mr Koomson, the NPP has consistently demonstrated what he described as a lack of concern for the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians and should therefore not be given another opportunity to govern the country.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, September 5, Mr Koomson warned that Ghanaians would suffer if the NPP returned to government.
He cited the NPP government’s controversial proposal to sell some hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as an example of what he described as the NPP’s approach to managing state assets.
Mr Koomson recalled that Organised Labour strongly resisted the proposed sale of the SSNIT hotels, arguing that the resistance was necessary to protect public assets and the interests of Ghanaian workers.
He accused the NPP of prioritising the accumulation of wealth while ordinary citizens bear the consequences of poor governance.
Mr Koomson further urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain focused on delivering on its mandate and strengthen its grassroots structures to effectively counter what he described as propaganda and attempts by the opposition to obstruct the government.
He said Ghanaian workers have historically faced significant challenges under NPP governments, insisting that, as a labour leader, he would continue to prioritise the political option he believes best serves the welfare of workers and ordinary Ghanaians.
Mr Koomson therefore appealed to Ghanaians not to make what he described as a “mistake” of returning the NPP to power, stressing the need to protect the interests of workers and the broader Ghanaian population.
