“Ghanaians Know the Difference” – Hamza Suhuyini Defends Mahama’s Legacy

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has described as baseless and unfair any attempt to compare the administration of President John Dramani Mahama to what he termed “the mistake of a regime Ghanaians endured for eight years under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

According to Suhuyini, Ghanaians are fully aware that the NDC has always been committed to nation-building and to the preservation of state institutions ensuring their independence, integrity, and effectiveness.

His comments were made in reaction to recent claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the NDC is seeking to influence the judiciary in cases involving some of its members currently standing trial.

Suhuyini firmly dismissed these allegations, stressing that, unlike the NPP, the NDC has never and would never interfere with the judicial processes of the Republic of Ghana. He maintained that under an NDC administration, the judiciary would remain fully independent and empowered to act in the national interest.

He further explained that individuals who believe they have been subjected to unfair or excessive bail conditions are entitled to seek redress through the courts. Citing an example, Suhuyini referenced the case of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, whose initial bail terms were later reviewed upon appeal a clear demonstration that Ghana’s judicial system has mechanisms to ensure fairness when allowed to function freely.

Reiterating the NDC’s unwavering respect for the rule of law, Suhuyini underscored that any attempt to draw a false equivalence between the governance of John Dramani Mahama and that of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “simply will not hold water.”

“The records are clear,” he asserted. “President Mahama led with respect for due process and institutional independence. What Ghanaians experienced under Akufo-Addo was the opposite,a period marked by excessive executive interference and disregard for accountability.”

Suhuyini concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain discerning and not be swayed by what he called “desperate political propaganda” intended to rewrite the country’s recent history.
