Kumasi Asante Kotoko and rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, two of Ghana’s most prominent football clubs, have jointly urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to fully implement the recommendations outlined in the Gbadegbe Commission Report.
The report, which focuses on addressing security lapses and governance issues in Ghanaian football, is seen as a crucial step towards improving the overall state of security and safety of the sport in the country.
By implementing the report’s recommendations, the GFA aims to enhance security measures at stadiums, improve officiating standards, and promote fair play.
The report’s implementation is expected to have a positive impact on the sport, promoting a safer and more enjoyable experience for players, officials, and fans alike.
The call from Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak underscores the importance of addressing the long-standing hooliganism and voilence issues plaguing Ghanaian football.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the suspension of the Ghana Premier League following the sudden passing of Nana Pooley, a renowned Ghanaian football supporter of Asante Kotoko after he was tragically killed by yet to be known assailants in Nsoatre on February 2, 2025 in the Ghana Premier League.
As a mark of respect, the GFA has put the league on hold until further notice to allow for investigation and reinforcement of safety measures at football venues to avert reoccurrence.
The GFA has expressed its condolences to the family of Nana Pooley and has urged all stakeholders, including clubs, players, and fans, to observe a period of mourning during this difficult time.
The suspension of the league will be lifted once the GFA announces a new schedule, which will be communicated to all stakeholders in due course.
The two clubs, with their massive following and influence, hope that their collective voice will prompt the GFA to take decisive action and implement the report’s recommendations in full.
