#GhanaAt68: President Mahama Calls for Reflection on National Stewardship During Independence Anniversaries

Accra, Ghana – The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has called for Independence Day celebrations to serve as a moment of reflection on how national assets have been managed for future generations.

According to him, the focus should not only be on the achievements of current leaders but on how well Ghana’s resources and assets have been preserved for those who will inherit them.

“These independence anniversaries must therefore be a moment of reflection, not on what we have done for ourselves but on how well we have stewarded national assets for those we will hand them over to in the future,” he said.

President Mahama made these remarks during his Independence Day speech at the Jubilee House.

As part of efforts to cut costs, Ghana’s 68th Independence celebration was moved from the usual Independence Square to the forecourt of the Presidency.

Under the previous NPP administration, the celebration had been rotated among different regions, but President Mahama has suspended this practice to reduce expenses.

Emphasizing the need for progress, President Mahama stated that Ghana’s history must not be one of lost opportunities but of continuous efforts toward greater achievements.

“Our story cannot be one of missed opportunities and will be one of continued efforts to achieve far more than we can boast of now,” he said.

He further warned that future generations will not look kindly on failures in national leadership.

“Posterity will not accept our failures or take them kindly,” he cautioned.
