Ghana Water Limited to Shut Down Weija Treatment Plant for Pipeline Repairs

 

Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Accra West Region, has informed the public and its customers that the Weija Treatment Plant will be temporarily closed on Thursday, 4th December 2025, to carry out urgent repairs on a faulty pipeline.

According to a statement released on December 2, a major pipeline that transports water from the plant to western Accra has developed serious perforations. If not repaired immediately, the pipeline risks collapsing.

The shutdown details are as follows:

Date: Thursday, December 4, 2025

Time: 6:00 am to 6:00 pm

Areas expected to be affected include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and neighboring communities.

GWL urges customers to store sufficient water in advance and assures them that water production will resume once repairs are complete. Solace Akomeah, Communication Manager for GWL Accra West, apologized for any inconvenience caused by the shutdown.
