Ghana Water Company Assures Swift Resolution to Volta Region Water Crisis

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has reassured residents of the Volta Region that efforts are in full swing to resolve the ongoing water crisis, which has left over 200,000 people without access to water for the past 30 days. The shortage, which stems from a major pump breakdown, has severely impacted households, businesses, and essential services across the region.

Speaking on the issue, Stanley Martey, Public Relations Manager of GWCL, announced that water supply in the Ho Municipality is expected to resume by Saturday, as engineers work tirelessly to restore operations. He acknowledged the hardships caused by the disruption and urged residents to remain patient while final repairs are completed.

“We understand the frustration and inconvenience this has caused, and we sincerely apologize for the prolonged delay,” Martey stated. “Our engineers are working around the clock to ensure that supply is restored as soon as possible. We are confident that by Saturday, residents of Ho Municipality will begin to receive water.”

The crisis has sparked concerns over water security in the region, with residents calling for long-term solutions to prevent future disruptions. Some have been forced to rely on expensive private water suppliers, while others have turned to unsafe water sources, raising public health concerns.

In response, GWCL has pledged to implement preventive measures, including regular maintenance of key infrastructure and the procurement of backup systems to ensure uninterrupted supply. Meanwhile, authorities are urging residents to conserve water and store adequate amounts once supply resumes.

As the affected communities await relief, the situation highlights the urgent need for improved water infrastructure and sustainable management to prevent similar crises in the future.
