Ghana U20 Star Aaron Essel Ready to Make an Impact
North Texas SC midfielder Aaron Essel has expressed his determination to make a lasting impression in the Black Stars after receiving his maiden call-up.
The 19-year-old defender has been included in coach Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the Unity Cup tournament in London.
Essel joins the team fresh from the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Ghana reached the quarter-finals. With several senior players absent, Essel is expected to get significant game time, allowing him to showcase his skills.
“It’s a great feeling and a big motivation to represent your home country,” Essel said. “I am glad to be here, and I am excited for this opportunity. I will work hard to leave my mark, and I thank God for this opportunity.”
The Black Stars will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday at the Gtech Community Stadium in West London. The winner will advance to the final against Jamaica, who beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2.
Essel is currently on a season-long loan at North Texas SC from Scottish club St Johnstone. This opportunity with the Black Stars could be a significant stepping stone in his career, and he is eager to seize it.
