
The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the appointment of Desmond Ofei as the new assistant coach of the Black Stars replacing German born Moroccan Joseph Laumann. This is in line with the association’s support to meet Otto Addo’s request for changes to his backroom staff ahead of the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, set to commence in March.
The GFA’s decision to bring Ofei on board is indicative of their commitment to enhancing the performance of the Black Stars as they prepare for crucial international competitions. His winning mentality and dynamic coaching style are expected to invigorate the team’s training and gameplay strategies.
The Black Stars performed woefully during the AFCON 2025 qualifiers where not a single game was won in six games costing Ghana’s appearance at the continent’s highest football festival for the first time since 2004 under Otto Addo.
Desmond Ofei who currently serve as the head coach of the national U-20 team, known as the Black Satellites has been decent in his position. Under his leadership, the team achieved significant milestones, including winning the African Games gold medal and a wonderful display in the WAFU Zone B U-20 tournament.
His impressive track record has garnered respect within the football community, highlighting his tactical prowess and ability to develop young talents and he is expected to ensure smooth transition of youth players to the senior team.
