Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has issued a direct warning to fans planning to travel for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He advised them not to give money to connection men who claim they can help arrange travel to the USA for the tournament. Instead, he urged supporters to patronize the officially endorsed operator, BP Soul Travel and Tour.
The minister made these remarks during the official launch of BP Soul Travel and Tour’s dedicated 2026 World Cup travel packages at the company’s head office in North Labone, Accra.
The Buem Constituency Member of Parliament addressed fans and the media, emphasizing that the Sports Ministry has formally recognized BP Soul Travel and Tour as the legitimate channel for Ghanaian supporters seeking to attend the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“Don’t give money to connection men who claim they can help you travel to the USA for the World Cup.” He explicitly recommended Soul Travel and Tour as the safe and approved option.
This warning comes at a critical time as excitement builds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026. Many Ghanaian fans are eager to follow the Black Stars, but this enthusiasm has also attracted unscrupulous middlemen offering dubious services.
These connection men often promise guaranteed visas, affordable flights, match tickets, hotels, and other arrangements in exchange for upfront payments. In reality, such schemes frequently result in lost money, forged documents, or no travel at all. The US Embassy in Ghana has long stressed that no agent or individual can guarantee a visa approval, and shortcuts or influence peddling do not work.
BP Soul Travel and Tour is positioned as a full-service provider offering comprehensive packages that include visa assistance for the USA, Canada, and Mexico, international flights, accommodation, local transportation, support with match ticketing, and additional tour experiences.
The company’s packages are designed to provide a reliable and hassle-free way for fans to attend the tournament. Fans interested in these services can contact the company directly at their office in House No. 4, 2nd Dade Close, North Labone, Accra.
Government support for fan travel remains limited. The Sports Ministry has indicated that it will facilitate travel for a maximum of 800 members of the Ghana Supporters Union. The estimated cost per supporter under this arrangement is around 9,250 US dollars, which covers airfare, accommodation, and local transport primarily for the group stage matches.
This cap reflects budget constraints and the practical challenges of organizing large numbers of fans across three host countries. Beyond this small official group, all other supporters are expected to arrange their own travel through verified channels such as BP Soul Travel and Tour, bearing the full costs themselves.
In the broader context of preparations, Minister Adams has been open about the Black Stars’ current situation. He recently acknowledged that the team is not yet fully ready for the World Cup, mainly due to the absence of a permanent head coach following the departure of Otto Addo. However, he expressed confidence that the squad will be prepared by the time the tournament begins and remains hopeful about Ghana’s prospects.
For Ghanaian fans considering travel, the key messages are straightforward. Avoid any unofficial agents or individuals demanding money for connections or special arrangements.
Rely only on the ministry-endorsed operator or other properly registered travel companies. Prepare genuine and complete documentation for visa applications, as there are no shortcuts. Budget carefully, since attending matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico involves significant expenses for flights, visas, accommodation, and ground logistics.
This initiative by the Sports Ministry, in partnership with BP Soul Travel and Tour, aims to protect passionate supporters from scams while ensuring those who do travel can focus on enjoying the experience and cheering for the national team.
