Ghana Settles Black Stars Coaches’ Back Pay, Paves Way for National Sports Fund

The Ghanaian government, under President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has cleared all outstanding salary payments owed to coaches of the Black Stars, the national football team, including both past and present staff for the last five years, AhotorSports can confirm.
Spearheaded by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams, this initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to fairness and accountability in Ghana’s football system. The Ministry, in collaboration with relevant agencies, conducted a detailed audit to secure the necessary funds, addressing months of unpaid salaries to the tune of $904K for 11 coaches who served during critical international tournaments and qualifiers over the period.
Beneficiaries include current head coach Otto Addo and his technical team, whose arrears from October 2024 to March 2025 have been settled, as well as former coaches such as Chris Hughton, C.K. Akonnor, and their assistants, including George Boateng, Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Maxwell Konadu.
Minister Adams emphasized that the payments aim to “restore dignity to professionals who have dedicated themselves to the nation.” To prevent future delays, the government is working to a establishment of Sports Fund to ensure timely compensation for national team staff.
