We, the Ghana Professionals Forum—a coalition of Ghanaian health consultants, practitioners, lawyers, environmentalists, and media professionals—are deeply alarmed by the catastrophic effects of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” on our nation’s health and environment.
The failure of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia to safeguard our natural resources and protect the well-being of our citizens is unacceptable. Their inaction has led to:
The poisoning of our rivers, streams, and lakes with mercury and other harmful chemicals
The destruction of fertile agricultural lands, jeopardizing food security
The endangerment of communities reliant on mining and farming for their livelihoods
The undermining of Ghana’s economic progress, as environmental degradation and health crises divert resources and stifle growth
We call for the immediate impeachment of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia for their failure to:
Protect our environmental heritage
Enforce laws against illegal mining activities
Hold perpetrators accountable
Develop and implement sustainable, eco-friendly mining practices
Their inaction has only empowered illegal miners, exacerbating this national crisis. We cannot remain passive as our country suffers.
