Ghana Prioritises Stability, Infrastructure, and Jobs in 2026 Budget — Vice President Opoku-Agyemang Tells AU–EU Summit

Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has announced that the country’s 2026 national budget is centered on restoring stability, accelerating infrastructure development, and expanding job opportunities.

Delivering President John Mahama’s message at the 7th African Union–European Union Summit in Luanda, Angola, the Vice President said the government’s economic reforms are beginning to show clear results, with inflation falling to its lowest level in four years and the cedi showing strong signs of stability.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that modern infrastructure and improved national connectivity remain the backbone of Ghana’s growth agenda, enabling trade, strengthening regional links, and enhancing access to essential services.

She further highlighted that investments in human capital and job creation are crucial for achieving inclusive and sustainable prosperity, especially for young people.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability and strengthening public financial management, noting that confidence in Ghana’s governance systems is steadily being rebuilt.

Addressing regional security concerns, the Vice President proposed the convening of a high-level West African meeting to confront rising extremist threats.

She cautioned that radical networks are taking advantage of poverty, social exclusion, and political instability across the sub-region, and stressed the need for coordinated action to protect communities and safeguard development gains.
