Ghana Premier League: Uninspiring Hearts of Oak pip Legon Cities on Friday night

Accra Hearts of Oak translated their recent winnings into match day sixteen of the Ghana Premier League kick starting their  journey in 2025 on flying foots.

Hearts fought for a 1-0 win on Friday night against rocked-bottom Legon Cities at University of Ghana Sports Stadium, thanks to Yusif Ramzy who meandered through Cities defence to give Hearts of Oak the lead at the break on the 43rd minute.

That was only the only of a game which was for a large part of it dominated and controlled by Yaw Acheampong’s side.

Cities in search of the equalizer pressed better, switched passes better, well organized in defensive shape, created goalscoring chances but they lacked the quality to find their numerous attacks at the of the net.

That’s not say Heart’s backline of defence was far poor as they kept Cities from getting any goal in the game.
Benjamin Asare, keeping his 8th clean sheet of the season, pulled off a couple of saves to deny the visitors.

Yaw Acheampong will be much more interesting in working on the finishing of his new club as it has been serial problem this season for them.

The loss leaves them at the bottom of the table with just 11points in sixteen games.

The victory does not only records Hearts’ first home win against Legon Cities since 2016 but also moves them to the second position on the table with 28 points which could change when all other matches of the round are cleared.

Hearts will complete the first half of the league with an away trip to Samraboi to face defending champions, FC Samartex 1996 in two weeks time.
