Ghana Premier League to resume on March 7 after one-month hiatus.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the Ghana Premier League will resume on March 7, 2024, after suspension over weeks.

The league was put on hold following the sudden passing of Ghanaian football supporter Franscis Frimpong, alias Nana Pooley in a violent act in Nsoatre on February 2, 2025 during Match Day 19 league between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

The GFA took the decision to suspend the league as a mark of respect for the departed Kotoko supporter whiles investigations into the fatal incident is ongoing.

There has been series of engagements with various stakeholders including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, The Ghana Police Service, the 18 Premier League clubs and Supporters’ Chiefs, referees and Match Commissioners ahead of the return of league on improved performance and match day security and safety.

However, the FA says it will continue the football calendar and resume on Match Day 23 on March 7, 2023 with Match Day 20, 21 and 22 treated as outstanding weeks.

The outstanding fixtures for Matchday 20 has been fixed for Tuesday March 18 to Thursday March 20, Matchday 21 will take place across approved venues on Tuesday April 1 to Thursday April 3 with Matchday 22 fixtures slated for Tuesday April 15 to Thursday April 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will take on Sekondi Eleven Wise in an outstanding MTN FA Cup match on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

With the league set to resume, teams will be looking to get back into action and fight for the top spot. Fans can expect an exciting second half of the season, with plenty of twists and turns.
