The Ghana Police Service has seized a Sinotruck tipper truck loaded with 3,009 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, following an intelligence led operation in the Greater Accra Region.
The seizure occurred on February 15, 2026, at about 12:10 a.m., when officers from the Tema Regional Patrols Unit stopped the vehicle with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya. According to a press release from the Tema Regional Police Command, the truck was carrying fertilizer sacks that concealed the suspected cannabis. On 15th February 2026 at about 0010 hours, an intelligence led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit led to the seizure of a Sinotruck tipper truck, the statement said. The vehicle was loaded with fertilizer sacks, containing a total of 3009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Upon sighting the police, the driver abandoned the truck and fled the scene. The vehicle and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, with investigations underway to apprehend the driver and verify the truck’s ownership. In a related development, the Tema Regional Police Command arrested two suspects for attempting to bribe officers in connection with the seized truck. On February 16, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., Victor Asigbey, aged 40, and Peter Asigbey, aged 35, were apprehended at the Regional CID Office in Tema. Police said the duo offered GHS 150,000 to influence the unlawful release of the impounded vehicle and suspected narcotics. Two suspects, Victor Asigbey (40) and Peter Asigbey (35), were arrested for attempting to bribe Police officers at the Regional CID Office in Tema with a cash sum of GHS 150,000.00, the statement noted. The cash sum was intended to unlawfully influence officers to release the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances.
The bribe money has been retrieved and retained as an exhibit, with both suspects currently in custody assisting investigations. They are slated to appear in court today, February 18, 2026.
