Ghana Parliament Okays GHS65.9M Budget for Sports Development in 2025

Parliament of Ghana has approved a budget allocation of GHS65,899,456.00 (approximately GHS65.9 million) for the Ministry of Sports, effective for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, AhotorSports can confirm.

This approval marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to enhance sports development as long campaigned.

The budget motion was presented by Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, and seconded by several Members of Parliament, including Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, MP for the Okere Constituency.

Addo-Kenneth emphasized the critical need for a strong maintenance culture, stating, “Maintenance has been an issue, and if we want to continue developing our sports and engaging the youth, the maintenance aspect should be very important to the ministry.

”This will ensure that these facilities last and provide opportunities for young people to develop their talent.”

This highlights a key concern among legislators about the sustainability of sports infrastructure.

The approval process, occurring on March 27, 2025, aligns with Ghana’s fiscal year, which runs from January 1 to December 31, suggesting this could be a mid-year adjustment or part of the annual budget cycle.

The Ministry of Finance’s publications, such as the 2025 Composite Budget, provide broader context, though specific allocations for the sports ministry were detailed in the parliamentary discussions.
