Hassan Ayariga, founder and flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), has blamed political parties for the flaws in the voter register and the ongoing tensions between the Electoral Commission (EC) and some political parties.
Speaking at an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting with the EC, civil society organizations (CSOs), and stakeholders, Ayariga stressed that the absence of a national data system is a major challenge preventing Ghana from achieving a flawless electoral process.
He criticized political parties for manipulating the voter register while expecting perfect results from the EC.
According to Ayariga, the voter register’s current issues are a direct result of the actions of some political parties, and it is unrealistic for them to demand flawless outcomes under such circumstances.
He urged the political parties to understand that the machines used by the EC depend on the information provided by these parties, and until a national data system is established, achieving a perfect system will remain difficult.
