Ghana is in the ICU under the NPP and might not survive – Keta MP

Kwame Dzudzorli Gapkey, the Member of Parliament for the Keta Constituency in the Volta Region, has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for mismanaging the country.

He compared Ghana under the NPP to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and warned that the nation might not survive if this continues.

During an interview on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Hon. Gapkey urged Ghanaians to vote out the NPP in the upcoming elections.

He argued that the only way to improve the country’s situation was by electing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He emphasized that Ghanaians need an experienced leader to fix the mess created by the NPP, and he endorsed John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s Presidential Candidate, as the right person for the job.

Hon. Gapkey also responded to a warning from the Global Fund, which threatened to stop supporting Ghana due to delays in clearing essential medications.

The Global Fund has issued a final ultimatum, stating that all funding will end by June 2024 if the government does not clear over 120 containers of vital drugs currently stuck at Tema port. These drugs, valued at $40 million, are crucial for treating diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Despite repeated promises from the government to resolve the issue, only about 60 out of 182 containers have been cleared since April, leaving the remaining containers held up since May 2023.

Hon. Gapkey expressed shock at the government’s neglect of these essential drugs for over a year, highlighting the serious health crisis this negligence could cause.
