Ghana in Talks with Wales for Pre-World Cup Friendly – Kofi Adams Confirms

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that Ghana is in discussions with Wales over a potential international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars are gearing up for this summer’s global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Head coach Otto Addo has already lined up high-profile warm-up fixtures as part of preparations. Ghana will face Austria on March 27 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, before taking on Germany on March 30 in Stuttgart.

In addition, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed plans for a friendly against Mexico in May, although the venue and exact date are yet to be announced.

Speaking before Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports on Thursday, February 26, Mr Adams disclosed that talks are ongoing to secure Wales as another preparatory opponent.

“We are in discussions with Wales for a possible friendly match as part of the team’s build-up to the World Cup,” he indicated.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the Mundial and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Having exited at the group stage in their two most recent appearances, the four-time African champions are determined to mount a stronger challenge and restore their reputation on football’s grandest stage.
