Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey joins VfL Wolfsburg

VfL Wolfsburg have secured the signing of promising Ghanaian centre-back Jonas Adjetey from FC Basel in a deal that has now been confirmed as done. The Bundesliga club reached a full agreement with the Swiss side for a transfer fee in the region of €10 million, marking a significant defensive reinforcement for the Wolves amid their ongoing challenges at the back and with the winter transfer window closing soon.

Jonas Adjetey signs with Wolsburg

The 22-year-old defender, who has established himself as a reliable presence in Basel’s backline since joining them in August 2022, is currently in the process of completing his medical examination ahead of putting pen to paper on what is expected to be a long-term contract in Germany.

Adjetey has accumulated 73 appearances for Basel across all competitions and earned seven caps for the Ghana national team, showcasing his composure, physicality, and potential on the international stage.

This move comes after the young talent attracted interest from several other clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bologna, RC Lens, and various sides in Turkey, but Wolfsburg ultimately won the race to secure his services.

The transfer represents a solid investment for the club, especially given Transfermarkt’s estimated market value of around €7 million for the player, and it addresses Wolfsburg’s need to bolster their defensive options as they navigate the second half of the season. Once the medical is cleared, Adjetey will officially join the VfL squad and prepare to make his impact in the Bundesliga.
