Ghana Black Queens Thrash Hong Kong 4-0 to Reach Pink Ladies Cup Final

The Ghana Black Queens secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Hong Kong in their opening match of the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup, played on Saturday, February 28, at the Al-Hamriya Sports Club Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. This result advances them strongly toward the tournament final while providing important preparation ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The match began with Ghana showing some initial caution, but they gradually took control of proceedings. The breakthrough arrived in the 28th minute when Princess Marfo opened the scoring. She finished off a well-constructed team move, with Doris Boaduwaa playing a key role in setting up the opportunity by picking out Marfo’s run, allowing the FC Nordsjaelland forward to fire home first time.

Ghana extended their lead shortly before halftime. Around the 39th or 40th minute, Doris Boaduwaa capitalized on a defensive mistake by Hong Kong to slot the ball into the net from close range, giving her side a solid 2-0 advantage going into the interval.

The second half started brightly for the Black Queens. Just two minutes after the restart, in the 47th minute, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah added the third goal. She took advantage of Hong Kong’s failure to clear a teasing corner delivered by Comfort Yeboah, pouncing on the loose ball to smash it home and effectively put the result beyond doubt.

Later in the game, Doris Boaduwaa earned a penalty in the 54th minute after being fouled, but her spot-kick was saved by the Hong Kong goalkeeper, preventing what could have been an even more emphatic scoreline. Ghana continued to dominate possession and create chances throughout.

The scoring was completed late on when debutant Patience Ajegipina Zakaria (also listed as Agejipena or Ajegipina Zakaria), the Ampem Darkoa Ladies forward who came off the bench, struck a stunning goal in the 87th minute or around the 90+3rd mark in some accounts. This sealed the clean-sheet win and marked a memorable first appearance for her at senior international level.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren praised the team’s performance afterward, noting their dominance and suggesting they could have scored even more goals. The victory sets a positive tone for Ghana in the tournament, with their next match scheduled against Russia on March 3 at the same venue.

Overall, the result highlights the squad’s attacking quality, defensive organization, and depth as they build momentum for upcoming continental competitions.
