Ghana Attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana Expresses Disappointment After Missing Out on 2025 AFCON
Ghana attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana has expressed his disappointment and sadness after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The team’s poor performance in the qualifiers, with three defeats and three draws in six matches, has meant that they will not compete in the AFCON tournament for the first time in over two decades.
Sulemana, who plays for Southampton, reflected on the team’s failure to qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco later this year.
“We are very disappointed. There are no words to describe how sad we feel. We really missed out big time, and this is a huge blow for the whole country,” he told Showmax.
The Ghanaian attacker took full responsibility for the team’s failure to qualify, acknowledging that the players had not performed well in the qualifiers.
“We as players take the blame and take full responsibility for not qualifying, and we have apologised to the country and our fans.”
Despite the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, the Black Stars are focused on their World Cup qualifiers and are on course to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after recording back-to-back wins in the March international break. Sulemana emphasized the team’s determination to do well in the World Cup qualifiers and in the World Cup itself.
Sulemana highlighted the significance of AFCON to Ghanaian football, saying that the tournament is “so different from every other tournament, and we take so much pride in taking part in AFCON.”
The team’s failure to qualify has been a major blow to the country’s football fans, who were eagerly awaiting their team’s participation in the tournament.
