The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity. He made this assurance during a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in Accra on Monday, February 3, 2025.
The visit, led by General Oppong-Peprah and accompanied by senior Service Chiefs, was aimed at formally congratulating Dr. Omane Boamah on his new role and reaffirming the GAF’s readiness to collaborate with him to bolster Ghana’s national security framework.
In his remarks, General Oppong-Peprah extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Officers, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff, wishing the new minister success in his tenure. He pledged the loyalty and commitment of the Armed Forces to securing Ghana’s borders across land, sea, and air, emphasizing their resolve to maintain peace and stability in the face of evolving security threats.
The meeting was graced by key officials, including the Chief Director of the MOD, Mr. Lawoetey Tettey; Chief of Staff of GAF, Lt. Gen. Joseph Prince Osei Owusu; and Air Commodore Edward Kwasi Gyamfi, Principal General Staff Officer at the MOD.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, in response, expressed his gratitude for the support and pledged to address the challenges faced by the Armed Forces, with a focus on enhancing accommodation facilities for troops and improving logistics procurement. He acknowledged the dedication of the GAF High Command in maintaining a peaceful and secure environment, free from violent extremism and terrorism, and assured them of his determination to prioritize their welfare and operational needs.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, as the Defence Minister and the Armed Forces leadership emphasized their shared commitment to fortifying Ghana’s security architecture and ensuring the safety and sovereignty of the nation.
