The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, recently engaged in high-level discussions with Denmark’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jakos Linulf, exploring strategic avenues for cooperation in the energy sector. The meeting, held in Accra, focused on leveraging Denmark’s extensive expertise in renewable energy to accelerate Ghana’s green transition agenda.
During the dialogue, Ambassador Linulf underscored Denmark’s commitment to supporting Ghana through knowledge transfer, technical assistance, and capacity-building programs for policymakers and energy sector professionals. The discussions highlighted the potential role of the Danish Energy Agency in facilitating these initiatives.
Minister Jinapor, reflecting on the engagement, stressed the Government of Ghana’s unwavering dedication, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, to increasing the share of renewables in the national energy mix. Speaking after the meeting, he noted on Facebook:
“I also highlighted Ghana’s investor-friendly renewable energy policies aimed at attracting investment to accelerate our green transition efforts.”
The energy minister further elaborated on his strategic vision for 2026 at a separate performance review forum, which convened senior officials and leadership across agencies under the Ministry of Energy. The retreat provided an essential platform to assess achievements in 2025, confront sectoral challenges, and establish actionable plans for the coming year.
Reflecting on his tenure since assuming office in January 2025, Jinapor acknowledged the significant challenges the energy sector faced, spanning both the power and petroleum sub-sectors. However, he expressed optimism about the progress achieved so far:
“Today, I am encouraged by the progress made, including sustained power stability with no recent loadshedding and the restoration of investor confidence in the upstream petroleum sector. Improved collaboration across the sector has played a key role in these gains.”
Looking forward, the minister outlined his key priorities for 2026, emphasizing a comprehensive and forward-looking approach:
⦁ Delivering stable, reliable, and affordable electricity to all Ghanaians.
⦁ Strengthening transmission and distribution networks.
⦁ Expanding generation capacity to meet rising demand.
⦁ Accelerating renewable energy deployment to support the green transition.
⦁ Revitalizing the upstream petroleum sector.
⦁ Overseeing the revamp of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company to enhance energy security, domestic value addition, and job creation
Minister Jinapor also emphasized accountability, performance, and results-driven leadership as essential principles guiding the ministry’s efforts. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a resilient, sustainable, and forward-looking energy sector that not only powers the nation but also underpins Ghana’s broader socio-economic development goals.
The engagement with Denmark, coupled with the ministry’s internal strategic review, signals Ghana’s determination to harness global expertise, attract investment, and implement ambitious reforms to achieve a greener, more sustainable energy future.
