The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) has served a formal notice of its intention to embark on a strike action, citing persistent failure to resolve long-standing concerns despite repeated engagements with management.
In a press release, the union expressed frustration with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) management, accusing them of taking inconsistent positions on the status of its members. In 2016, management described GhATSEA members as “non-essential workers,” but are now claiming they are “essential workers” to support their current position in the ongoing dispute.
The union is demanding the removal of Mr. Ebenezer Sagoe, Director of Human Resources, citing his alleged role in perpetuating inequitable job placement and unfair salary administration practices. GhATSEA claims that Mr. Sagoe has consistently demonstrated a lack of good faith in resolving the association’s concerns over the past decade.
Specific issues highlighted by the union include:
– Improper placement of members with HND qualifications on Junior Staff status
– Unfair salary administration, with minimal gaps between Level 7 and Level 6 employees
– Wide gaps between Level 6 and Level 5 employees
– Instances where Level 5 employees earn more than earlier recruits at the same or higher level
The union is requesting the implementation of the Dr. Imoro’s Report and the Promotional Needs Petition submitted to management in July 2025. If these issues are not resolved by January 15, 2026, GhATSEA will proceed with strike action, warning that unresolved technical and safety personnel issues will affect Ghana’s airspace operations.
The association is urging the GCAA Board to intervene and ensure a fair resolution to the dispute.
