GFL Praises Minister-Designate Dr. Pelpuo for Hitting the Ground Running – (AUDIO)

Accra, Ghana – The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has applauded the Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, for taking swift action to address key labour issues.

According to Koomson, Dr Pelpuo’s decision to convene a tripartite meeting with labour unions demonstrates his proactive approach to resolving pressing concerns within the sector.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu Show with host Nana Dogbe, Mr Koomson praised the minister-designate’s commitment, stating that his immediate engagement with stakeholders is a positive step toward fostering industrial harmony.

“The Employment Minister has hit the ground running because a letter from him states that this coming Monday, there will be a tripartite meeting and it shows he is serious about work and that is what we are looking for,” he said.

The Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has pledged to address the persistent labour disputes and agitations that have long plagued Ghana’s workforce.

He assured stakeholders that, if confirmed, his administration would prioritize collaboration between labour unions, employers, and other relevant entities to resolve grievances amicably.

Dr. Pelpuo also pledged to work closely with labour unions, employers, and other stakeholders to resolve grievances.

He noted that fostering collaboration and understanding would be at the heart of his administration’s approach, should his nomination be approved.

In addition to addressing labour disputes, Dr. Pelpuo reaffirmed his commitment to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 24-hour economy policy, which aims to revolutionize Ghana’s labour landscape by extending economic activities beyond traditional working hours.

Abraham Koomson, reacting to this, said the 24-hour economy policy proposal by the NDC will be a game changer and they should start for everybody to see that they are committed to making sure the policy is implemented as it is about job creation.

“Where my focus is on the 24-hour, they shouldn’t play with it, they should start for everybody to see that they are committed to making sure that this policy is implemented as it is about job creation and that is the area we workers are concerned it,” he said.

The policy, proposed by President John Dramani Mahama, seeks to create a three-shift system across various sectors, enabling industries to operate continuously throughout the day and night.
