GFL Boss Urges President Mahama to Reshuffle Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng

TEMA, Ghana – 1st November, 2025: The General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reshuffle the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, citing what he described as weak performance in tackling corruption involving officials of the previous administration.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s “Yepe Ahunu” show on Saturday, November 1, Mr. Koomson said the Special Prosecutor has not demonstrated enough resolve in handling major corruption cases linked to former government officials.

“The Special Prosecutor is not on top of his game. We are not seeing any real progress in prosecuting those who looted state funds under the previous government,” he stated.

The veteran unionist questioned the motives behind the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) under the Akufo-Addo administration, alleging that it was politically motivated.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor was created by former President Akufo-Addo with ill intentions — not to fight corruption genuinely, but to target members of the NDC. That’s why he brought Martin Amidu in the first place,” he claimed.

Mr. Koomson noted that if President Mahama is serious about his “Reset Agenda”, then a reshuffle at the OSP is necessary to restore public confidence and ensure impartial justice.

He also accused the current Special Prosecutor of engaging in what he described as “media theatrics” rather than delivering concrete results.

“He keeps holding press conferences without securing any meaningful prosecutions. Ghanaians are tired of talk; we want action,” Mr. Koomson emphasized.

His comments follow a press conference held by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng on October 30, 2025, during which Mr. Agyebeng announced plans to formally charge former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and five other ex-government officials by the end of November 2025.

The charges relate to alleged corruption, statutory breaches, and conflicts of interest arising from the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract.

According to Mr. Agyebeng, investigations revealed significant financial irregularities involving senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), including:

Ken Ofori-Atta, former Minister of Finance

Ernest Akore, former Chief of Staff at the Finance Ministry

Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General, GRA

Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General, GRA

Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner, Customs Division, GRA

Kwadwo Damoah, former Commissioner, Customs Division, GRA, and Member of Parliament for Jaman South

Mr. Koomson concluded that unless the Special Prosecutor is replaced with a more competent and impartial individual, those who misused state resources under the previous administration will continue to go unpunished.
