GFA Security Committee Vows Tough Measures Against Hooliganism Following Tragic Kotoko Fan Stabbing

The Chairperson of the Security Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), DCOP Lydia Donkor, has assured the public that strict security protocols and standardized procedures will be enforced at all match venues to combat rising hooliganism in Ghanaian football.

Her statement comes in the wake of the tragic stabbing of a Kotoko supporter, Pooley, an incident that has sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stronger security interventions at stadiums.

According to DCOP Donkor, the GFA Security Committee is working closely with law enforcement agencies, club officials, and other stakeholders to ensure that acts of violence, such as the one that claimed Pooley’s life, are swiftly addressed and prevented in the future.

“We will not tolerate any form of hooliganism at our match venues. Standardized security procedures will be strictly adhered to, and anyone found engaging in violent conduct will face the full force of the law,” she stated.

Key Measures to Curb Hooliganism:

Increased Police Presence: More uniformed and plainclothes officers will be deployed at high-risk matches.

Strict Stadium Security Checks: Fans will undergo thorough screenings before entering match venues.

Enhanced Surveillance: CCTV cameras will be installed in strategic areas to monitor and identify perpetrators of violence.

Zero Tolerance for Offenders: Arrests and swift legal action will be taken against troublemakers.

Education and Sensitization: Fans will be engaged in anti-violence campaigns to promote discipline and sportsmanship.

The tragic incident involving Pooley’s death has once again exposed the dangers of football hooliganism in Ghana, with many calling for stricter punishments for offenders. Football authorities and security agencies have pledged to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice while implementing long-term strategies to ensure the safety of fans, players, and officials at all stadiums.

The GFA and its security committee are urging all football lovers to support efforts to maintain peace and order, emphasizing that violence has no place in the game.
