The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has clarified the rationale behind its decision to appoint five additional professionals to the Black Stars’ technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Anton Schäfer explained that the move forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the team’s preparation for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
“The five new additions to the Black Stars technical team were strategically brought on board to ensure Ghana succeeds at the World Cup,” Schäfer said in an interview with Medeamaa FM.
The GFA recently announced the appointments as part of efforts to enhance the national team’s technical and performance structure ahead of the global showpiece in North America.
The newly recruited personnel include French tactician Alain Ravera, Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, Spanish coach José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, and British-born Ghanaian performance specialist Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.
According to the Association, the appointments are designed to inject additional expertise, experience, and specialized knowledge into the Black Stars setup as Ghana intensifies preparations for the World Cup.
The new technical team members are expected to play key roles in areas ranging from tactical development and player conditioning to injury management and overall performance optimization.
With qualification secured, the Black Stars are now focused on assembling a strong technical framework capable of supporting the team’s ambitions on the world stage.
