GFA Communications Director Henry Asante has issued a detailed clarification regarding the ongoing status of national team coach Carlos Queiroz, emphasizing that the process is far more layered and institutional than a simple internal endorsement.
According to Asante, the council—recognized as the absolute highest decision-making body within the Ghana Football Association—undertook a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of the coach’s performance across recent campaigns, matches, and overall contributions to the Black Stars setup. After carefully weighing the results of that evaluation, the council collectively reached a firm agreement that Queiroz should continue in his role, viewing his tenure as sufficiently meritorious to warrant retention rather than an immediate change in leadership.
Yet Asante was careful to stress that this internal consensus, while significant, does not represent the ultimate or binding resolution. The final authority, he explained, lies beyond the FA itself; the matter must now proceed to the relevant Ministry for further scrutiny. There, officials are expected to examine the existing contractual arrangements in meticulous detail, evaluate their terms, and ultimately decide whether to grant formal approval.
This step is indispensable because the Ministry, rather than the FA, carries the financial responsibility of meeting the coach’s salary obligations and any related remuneration packages. Without that ministerial endorsement and the accompanying budgetary commitment, the council’s preference cannot be translated into a renewed or extended agreement.
Asante also openly acknowledged the limits of his own information on the commercial side of the discussions. He stated that he possesses no knowledge of the precise offer the FA has already extended to Queiroz, nor of any counter-proposal the Portuguese coach may have advanced in response.
These negotiations remain opaque even to senior communications officials, underscoring the sensitivity and complexity of the contractual talks currently underway. In essence, while the technical and sporting evaluation has produced a clear recommendation for continuity, the administrative, legal, and fiscal dimensions must still be resolved at the governmental level before any definitive outcome can be announced.
