The Ghana Education Service has officially released the approved 2026/2027 academic calendar for basic schools across the country.
In an immediate release dated May 6, 2026, the Service announced that the calendar applies to all Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools nationwide.
According to the statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of GES, Daniel Fenyi, the first term of the academic year will begin on September 8, 2026, and end on December 17, 2026. Students will then proceed on vacation from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027.
GES also indicated that a two-day mid-term break for the first term will be observed on November 5 and 6, 2026.
The second term is scheduled to reopen on January 5, 2027, and close on March 25, 2027, with vacation running from March 26 to April 19, 2027.
For the third term, schools will reopen on April 20, 2027, and close on July 22, 2027, marking the end of the academic year. Vacation for the term will begin on July 23, 2027.
The Service further announced that the 2027 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will take place from Wednesday, May 5, to Wednesday, May 12, 2027.
GES reminded stakeholders that all public holidays within the academic year are to be observed accordingly and emphasized that a two-day mid-term break will be observed in each term for all basic schools.
The statement urged heads of schools, teachers, parents, guardians, and learners to take note of the dates and make adequate preparations to ensure a smooth and effective academic year.
