GES Investigates Alleged Sexual Assault of Bolgatanga Girls SHS Student

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has commenced investigations into an alleged sexual assault involving a student of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School, reportedly perpetrated by two watchmen at the school.

According to preliminary information released by the GES, the student is a special-needs student who is on medication. On the day of the alleged incident, the student reportedly suffered a relapse and required medical attention. It was during this period that the alleged assault is said to have occurred.

As an initial response, the two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police to assist with investigations. The GES has also interdicted the two staff members with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the investigations.

The Service says a thorough investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident. It says appropriate sanctions will be applied based on the findings, in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

The GES has meanwhile cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student under their care.

Management has stressed that it will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety or welfare of students, and has assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
