GES interdicts Obuasi SHTS headmaster over alleged sexual misconduct

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.

The interdiction, announced in a statement dated October 14, 2026, takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending a full-scale investigation into the allegations.

According to the GES, the alleged incident reportedly triggered a student rampage at the school, resulting in the destruction of school property and other items and the temporary closure of the institution.

Mr Abdulai has been directed to proceed on interdiction with immediate effect and make himself available to assist with the investigation. He is also required to hand over the management of the school to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education.

The Service further disclosed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the police as investigations into the matter continue.

In the statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and welfare of students and staff and upholding professional standards in schools.

The allegations against Mr Abdulai have not yet been established. The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the matter, while the interdiction remains an administrative measure pending the outcome of the process.
