Nollywood actress and filmmaker Georgina Ibeh has voiced her frustration regarding a concerning trend in the industry where actors attempt to dictate casting choices for her films.
On November 12, 2024, Ibeh took to Instagram to share her anger over actors who impose their suggestions during the casting process. She detailed her experiences, explaining, “This has been happening for a while, but recently when I reach out to an actor for a role, the first thing they often ask after discussions about payment is, ‘Who else is in the film?’ That’s a common question; we all want to know who we will be working with.”
However, she lamented that some actors go further, even suggesting specific cast members for the project. “They might say they will only take the role if the person they propose is included. Really?” she expressed with disbelief.
Ibeh recounted a particular incident where she contacted an up-and-coming actress’s management to negotiate terms, only to be pressed about the rest of the cast. “So if I don’t cast the person you want, you won’t participate? This has been happening frequently, and I might be considered a bit traditional, but I’ve put up with too much in this film industry,” she remarked.
“Let’s put an end to this today! No one should try to impose their will on me or GI Films. If I call you for a role, just perform and move on. Don’t come to me with suggestions!” she firmly concluded.
