Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini praised midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana for his decisive 76th-minute goal in a 2-1 victory over AS Roma on May 12, 2025, which secured Atalanta’s qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
Gasperini described Sulemana’s low strike from just outside the area as “a true stunner” and expressed happiness for the 21-year-old Ghanaian, who scored his first Serie A goal for the club in just his eighth appearance since joining from Cagliari in 2024.
Despite limited playing time due to competition from established players, Gasperini acknowledged Sulemana’s potential, stating, “I didn’t get to use him much, mainly because we had some real heavy hitters in front of him, but he’s earned it no question.”
He also highlighted Sulemana’s character, calling him “a top lad with the utmost education and respect.” The win placed Atalanta third in Serie A with 71 points, ensuring their fifth Champions League appearance in seven years under Gasperini’s leadership.
