The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the resumption of its suspended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region starting Thursday, 20 November 2025. This decision follows a thorough review and ongoing investigations after a stampede disrupted the recruitment process last week, causing injuries and distress. The military high command has taken decisive steps to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly and transparently, emphasizing fairness and the safety of all applicants.
In a significant move towards accountability, the entire Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced. Commodore FA Nyarko has been appointed Director General Human Resource, Colonel F Kusi-Darko as Director Manpower, and Colonel GB Eduah as Director Information Technology. These leadership changes signal GAF’s commitment to restoring public confidence and implementing improved oversight throughout the recruitment process. Meanwhile, an investigative board of inquiry remains active, tasked with uncovering the causes of the incident. GAF has assured the public that anyone found responsible will face appropriate sanctions.
To facilitate a well-organized screening process, GAF will conduct the recruitment at eight sub-centres distributed across five locations in the Greater Accra Region. These include two centres at El-Wak Stadium, two at Nicholson Park in Burma Camp, one at the Air Force Base in Burma Camp, two at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Teshie, and one at the Eastern Naval Command in Tema. This decentralization aims to reduce crowding and streamline applicant processing.
Applicants have been advised to await SMS notifications, which will be sent in batches of 600, detailing their reporting dates, batch numbers, and designated screening centres. It is crucial for applicants to adhere strictly to these instructions to avoid complications. Those who do not receive messages by the resumption date are urged to contact the provided helpline or WhatsApp number for immediate assistance. Furthermore, to minimize congestion and security risks, GAF has explicitly requested that families and friends refrain from accompanying applicants to the screening centres, reinforcing that only qualified applicants will gain entry.
In expressing regret over the unfortunate stampede, GAF extended deepest sympathies to the families of those affected and wished the injured a swift recovery. In a show of care and responsibility, all injured individuals will continue to receive free medical attention at the 37 Military Hospital until fully healed. The military also announced a special recruitment package to be offered to those injured and to the bereaved families after recovery or through proper channels, underscoring a commitment to supporting its community through this difficult period. The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, the Acting Director General of Public Relations.
