The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially reclaimed parcels of land at the Kotoka International Airport previously held by the McDan Group, following a decisive legal victory in the High Court.
In a statement released today, GACL confirmed that it had successfully taken possession of the disputed airport lands after a prolonged legal battle that challenged the McDan Group’s occupation of the property.
The court’s ruling affirmed GACL’s sole authority over the area, paving the way for the enforcement of the judgment.
The dispute centered on land leased to McDan Aviation, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, for the operation of a private jet terminal. Tensions escalated in 2022 when GACL suspended McDan’s operations over alleged breaches of aviation protocols and lease agreements. Legal proceedings soon followed, with GACL seeking to nullify the lease and repossess the property.
“The court’s ruling validates our position and reaffirms our responsibility to manage and safeguard airport lands in the public interest,” a GACL spokesperson said. “We remain committed to ensuring all tenants and partners operate within the confines of the law and our operational standards.”
Sources indicate that the premises have been secured by GACL officials, with security tightened to prevent unauthorized access.
The court’s decision is seen as a significant precedent in reinforcing state control over strategic infrastructure, especially amid growing concerns about the privatization of sensitive public assets.
