Members of the Coastal and Inland Fishing Project Special Campaign Team of the National Democratic Congress NDC stormed Greater Accra on October 1, 2024, to engage women in the fishing industry such as National Fish processors Traders Association (NAFPTA) and
Canoe Council Women’s Wing about the measures NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has initiated for fish mongers, especially women in the industry.
Speaking to the media, Francis Kofi Adams, the secretary of the Fish Mongers campaign team for coastal and inland communities, outlined the policies John Dramani Mahama had for the fish harbour when he be elected. He claimed that because the welfare of female fishmongers is so important, the sea’s closed season will be spared when they are elected to power.
He went on to say that one of John Mahama’s policies for fishmongers is to encourage higher education for their offspring, which is why free postsecondary education is being offered to first-year students.
Kofi Adam also mentioned that in order to help fishmongers’ children avoid individuals who will undermine socially inappropriate behaviour, John Dramani Mahama and his administration will offer free apprenticeships to those whose children are likely to engage in trading with Capital.
Nevertheless, John Dramani Mahama was elected to power and would build and upgrade every marine defence system to ensure public safety. He observed. “We will launch the Fish Mongers Credit Facility, which offers free interest loans to support our women in the fishing industry,” he declared.
He also thought of pre-mix fuel and how the committee would be appointed to oversee it, allowing all profits to be put to good use for the construction of schools, hospitals, and chip compounds, as well as for the purchase of all the equipment required to make work more flexible. He then exhorts every member to cast a resounding vote for the National Democratic Congress flag bearer in order to secure a better future.
On her part, Dr Naa Hoffmann, one of the secretariat, expressed her joy at the fishmongers’ presence, particularly the women, and how they had flourished as a result of the John Dramani Mahama model.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Naa Hoffmann clarified that although the NPP authorities had been managing the pre-mix for more than eight years, the primary goal of the Landing Beach committee’s establishment was to oversee it and use the proceeds to further the development of the villages.
“It’s the dream of John Dramani Mahama to revive this policy and give power back to the Landing Beach Committee such that they will manage all the affairs of the Landing Beach,” she stated.
