Nollywood star Funke Akindele has spoken out about canvassing and piracy as she prepares for the release of her upcoming film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, set for December.
During an Exhibitor Soirée on November 20, 2024, at FilmHouse Cinemas, she shared her ambitious goal of ₦5 billion and urged her fans not to engage in canvassing to support her movie. “I want to address the issue of canvassing. Let’s discourage it so that no one feels pressured.
We shouldn’t be pulling people at the cinemas. Audiences know what they want to see. It’s not about telling them what to watch or not to watch,” she stated. On the topic of piracy, she referenced last year’s incident with A Tribe Called Judah, which faced significant piracy issues, and called on the public to protect her new film as they would their own belongings.
“Let’s be cautious and vigilant. This is our movie, and we want to earn from it. Just think about the revenue lost if A Tribe Called Judah hadn’t been pirated. But we have another chance now. Please safeguard this film for me. Remember, no phones,” she emphasized.
Everybody Loves Jenifa boasts an impressive cast, featuring Funke Akindele (Jenifa) alongside Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana (Sege), Jackie Appiah, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Bisola Aiyeola, Patience Ozokwor, Chimezie Imo, and Isaac Olayiwola (Layi Wasabi). Additionally, Mercy Aigbe’s film Thin Line is scheduled to be released on December 13, 2024, and Toyin Abraham’s Alakada Bad and Boujee will follow on December 20, 2024.
