Fuel Price Relief: Petrol Hits Single Digits at Select Stations, Diesel Also Declines

Some oil marketing companies (OMCs) are slashing pump prices as Ghana’s second January pricing window opens today, aligning with earlier forecasts from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) for widespread fuel price drops.

State-owned GOIL leads the charge, offering discounts at 150 stations nationwide. Super XP petrol now sells for GH¢9.99 per litre down from GH¢10.99 in the first window while Diesel XP dips to GH¢11.21 per litre from GH¢11.96. Super XP 95 holds steady at GH¢13.97 per litre, even at these outlets.

Star Oil has joined in, cutting prices at 175 stations. Super petrol is now GH¢9.97 per litre (from GH¢10.56), diesel GH¢10.97 (from GH¢11.56), and RON 95 GH¢12.54 (from GH¢12.96). Some outlets stick to prior rates.

GOIL’s changes kicked in at 6:00 a.m., with Star Oil following at 8:00 a.m. These reductions stem from a stronger Ghana cedi and falling global petroleum prices.

Analysts predict relief for consumers’ wallets, potential transport fare cuts, and fiercer OMC competition ahead.
