Free SHS needs urgent review – Bright Eric Quansah alleges
Bright Eric Quansah, a lecturer at Regent University College and policy analyst, shared his thoughts on President John Dramani Mahama’s state of the nation address, particularly on education.
Quansah agrees that Ghana’s educational sector is outdated and needs reforms, citing advancements in education systems in developed countries as a model for progress.
He suggests revisiting the free Senior High School initiative to improve its effectiveness for ordinary Ghanaians.
He notes that Article 71 holders, who benefit from the initiative, often opt for private schools, leaving public schools under-resourced.
Quansah proposes categorizing the free SHS policy to allow some individuals to pay, making the initiative more sustainable for the country.
Additionally, Quansah highlights the need to address indiscipline in Ghanaian schools, emphasizing the importance of prompt action.
His comments were made on Yepeahunu, a program on Ahotor FM hosted by Nana Dogbe.
