Frank Lampard wins The 2026 EFL Championship Manager of the Season

Frank Lampard has been named the 2026 EFL Championship Manager of the Season following an outstanding campaign with Coventry City.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder received the prestigious award at the EFL Awards ceremony held on 19 April 2026 in London. He was recognized for transforming the Sky Blues into genuine title contenders and guiding them back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

Under Lampard’s leadership, Coventry developed a dynamic attacking style paired with disciplined defensive organization, making them one of the most difficult teams to beat in the division. With just a handful of matches remaining in the season, the club sat at the summit of the Championship table and secured promotion to the top flight with games to spare.

This achievement marked a remarkable turnaround for the club in one of English football’s most competitive leagues.

Lampard was one of four managers shortlisted for the award, alongside Alex Neil of Millwall, Sergej Jakirovic of Hull City, and Kim Hellberg of Middlesbrough. The shortlist highlighted the strong performances across several clubs pushing for promotion or play-off spots, but it was ultimately Lampard’s consistent impact and ability to inspire his team that earned him the honors in what proved to be a closely contested race.

This recognition marks a significant personal milestone for Lampard in his managerial career. It demonstrates his growing ability to rebuild and motivate a side, building on earlier experiences and showcasing his tactical acumen in the second tier.

The EFL Championship Manager of the Season award, sponsored by Football Manager, celebrates the individual who has made the greatest overall contribution to their team’s performance over the full campaign. In 2026, it rightfully went to the Coventry boss for his masterful work.

Congratulations to Frank Lampard on this well-deserved accolade, which caps off what has been an impressive return to the dugout and a memorable season for both him and Coventry City.
