Francis Nkrumah, the son of Ghana’s first president dies at 89.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the esteemed Emeritus Professor Francis Nkrumah, a revered pediatrician and public health specialist.

 The eldest son of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has left us at the age of 89.

Report confirms that Professor Nkrumah departed this world on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

The Conventions Peoples Party (CPP), founded by Kwame Nkrumah, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, June 30, to announce the sorrowful news of Osagyefo’s passing.

Professor Francis Nkrumah was not only a distinguished academic but also the longest-serving director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), holding the position from 1989 to 1998.

His contributions to the eradication of poliomyelitis in Africa earned him a World Health Organisation (WHO) award in 2016, a testament to his dedication to improving global health.

In his homeland, he was honored by the College of Physicians and Surgeons for his pivotal roles as a founding member of the Pediatric Association of Ghana and the West African College of Physicians.

His legacy in public health and medicine will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
