Four vehicles have been involved in a road crash at Tech Junction-Top High in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. on Sunday during the morning rush hour, after an ambulance with registration number GV 554-24 allegedly attempted to manoeuvre through a traffic gridlock.
According to eyewitnesses, the ambulance was travelling along the Ejisu stretch with its siren blaring when it attempted to weave between lanes of vehicles that had stopped at a red traffic light.
The available space was reportedly insufficient for the ambulance to pass, resulting in a collision with two vehicles. The impact caused the affected vehicles to collide with two others ahead of them, bringing the total number of vehicles involved in the crash to four.
One of the drivers whose vehicle was affected said the ambulance appeared to be in a hurry and attempted to pass through the middle of the traffic, but the vehicles were already tightly packed because of the red light.
Another motorist said drivers heard the ambulance’s siren but had limited room to move out of its way because of the traffic situation.
Speaking off camera, the ambulance driver explained that he was transporting a patient to hospital in an emergency and had to navigate through the traffic as quickly as possible.
Following the crash, authorities called for a backup ambulance, which arrived at the scene to continue transporting the patient to hospital.
Personnel from the Adum Division of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service subsequently arrived to manage traffic, document the incident and assess the damage to the vehicles.
No deaths or injuries were reported in the crash, according to eyewitnesses at the scene. However, all four vehicles sustained damage, particularly to their bumpers and fenders.
The accident caused a temporary traffic build-up along the Top High stretch as tow trucks worked to clear the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
