Former President Kufuor Criticizes Akufo-Addo Administration, Dr. Ayittah Questions Timing

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has criticized several policy decisions under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, citing the Domestic Debt Exchange Programmed (DDEP), National Cathedral project, and Power Distribution Services (PDS) deal as factors that contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on The Delay Show, Kufuor stated that he never understood the rationale behind these initiatives and was not consulted before implementation. He noted that the NPP’s 2016 election victory was built on his administration’s achievements, but the direction of governance changed after Akufo-Addo took office.
Dr. Samuel Ayittah, a lecturer at Koforidua Polytechnic, questioned why Kufuor is speaking out now, suggesting that he should have spoken up earlier if he had concerns about the Akufo-Addo administration’s policies.
“Why were you forcing Bawumia on Ghanaians if you admit they didn’t govern well?” Ayittah asked on Ahotor FM news.
Ayittah also implied that Kufuor’s criticism may be motivated by personal differences with Akufo-Addo, noting that the former president is known to be intolerant and may not have tolerated Kufuor’s views.
