Former Hearts of Oak Defender Dan Quaye Backs Didi Dramani’s Goalkeeper Rotation Policy

Former Ghana international and Hearts of Oak defender Dan Quaye has thrown his full support behind head coach Didi Dramani’s decision to rotate goalkeepers at the club, insisting the policy is both sensible and beneficial.

Dramani, who previously served as an assistant coach of the Black Stars, has alternated between first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and his deputy Solomon Agbasi in recent weeks. The approach has paid dividends, with both shot-stoppers delivering impressive and composed performances when called upon.

Asare, who returned strongly after recovering from injury, was surprisingly named on the bench over the weekend as Dramani handed Solomon Agbasi a starting role. The Phobians went on to play out an entertaining goalless draw against the Hunters, a match in which Agbasi proved his worth.

The former Dreams FC goalkeeper delivered a confident display, pulling off several crucial saves to deny the opposition and preserve a valuable point for Hearts of Oak.

For Dramani, the move not only yielded results on the pitch but also reinforced his belief in squad rotation and internal competition as key elements of long-term team success.

Speaking in an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM as monitored by ahotoronline.com, Dan Quaye—once a rock-solid presence in Hearts’ defence—backed the coach’s decision, stressing that Benjamin Asare cannot be expected to play every match throughout the season.

“Asare has established himself as Ghana’s number one goalkeeper. He has nothing to prove to earn his place in the Black Stars,” Quaye said.

“I support Didi Dramani’s goalkeeper rotation policy because Asare needs some rest.”

Quaye also drew parallels with past goalkeeping rivalries at the club, noting that competition has always existed at the highest level without negative consequences.

“Sammy Adjei and Eben Dida competed at the top level at Hearts, and nothing happened,” he added.

“The rotation policy won’t be a problem for either Hearts of Oak or the Black Stars. Asare cannot play all the games. Solomon Agbasi has shown quality and deserves to be given the opportunity.”

He concluded by emphasizing that healthy competition between goalkeepers can only strengthen the team as the season progresses.
