Former Ghanaian High Commissioner to India, Sam Pee Yalley, Passes Away

 

Ghana is mourning the loss of one of its distinguished diplomats and political stalwarts, Sam Pee Yalley, who passed away on Sunday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra

A former High Commissioner to India and a leading figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yalley’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the political and diplomatic communities. Though the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, tributes have poured in from across the nation.

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin was among the first to publicly express his grief. In a moving tribute shared on social media, he described Yalley as “a brother and friend,” commending his unwavering dedication to public service and political professionalism. “Ambassador Yalley was a champion of professionalism in politics and a key figure in our party’s development,” Bagbin stated.

Sam Pee Yalley’s legacy spans a distinguished career in law, governance, and diplomacy. Prior to his diplomatic appointment, he served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority, where he played a pivotal role in shaping pension policy. In 2014, under the leadership of then-President John Dramani Mahama, he was appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to India—a role he fulfilled with distinction, fostering strong bilateral ties and promoting Ghanaian interests on the international stage.

Beyond his professional roles, Yalley was deeply passionate about social advocacy. He was especially vocal in promoting gender equality and empowering women in leadership. His tenure as President of the NDC Professionals Forum saw a strong push for ethical leadership, inclusivity, and the harnessing of professional expertise within politics.
