Former Ghana international striker Matthew Amoah, now 45, has rejoined his old club NAC Breda in a coaching role, integrating into the technical staff alongside another former NAC forward, Anouar Diba, aged 42).
The pair, both legends from the club’s past, will specialize in coaching and developing the team’s strikers and overall attacking play. They have previously worked successfully with NAC’s youth academy players and will now apply that expertise to the senior squad starting in January 2026.
The appointments were officially announced by NAC Breda on December 26, 2025, with technical director Peter Maas praising the move: “With the addition of Matthew and Anouar, we’re adding specific expertise to the current coaching staff. Both have been doing excellent and focused work with our youth players at the NAC Youth Academy for quite some time, and they’ll now do the same with the first team.”
During his playing career at NAC from 2007 to 2011, Amoah was highly prolific, scoring around 43-57 goals in over 105 league appearances, making him a fan favorite.
Diba, who played for the club from 2002 to 2007, contributed 16-20 goals and around 20 assists in more than 120 games. Amoah also earned 45 caps for Ghana, scoring 12 goals and featuring at the 2006 World Cup.
This development coincides with NAC Breda’s desperate fight against relegation in the 2025/26 Eredivisie season. As of early January 2026, the club sits at the bottom of the 18-team table with just 13 points from 17 matches (3 wins, 4 draws, 10 losses, goal difference -10).
The new coaching duo will work directly with recent high-profile signing André Ayew , the 36-year-old former Ghana captain who joined on December 31, 2025, on a deal until the end of the season with an option for extension.
Ayew, a veteran with over 120 caps for Ghana and experience at clubs like Marseille, Swansea, and most recently Le Havre, expressed his motivation upon arrival: “I’m someone who really enjoys challenges… I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. Staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters.”
He joins fellow Ghanaians at the club, including Kamal Sowah and Dennis Odoi, further strengthening the Ghanaian contingent as NAC seeks to climb out of the relegation zone in the second half of the campaign.
