Former Ghana FA boss frowns at calls for Appiah’s return

Former Ghana Football Association president Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has called on the body not to consider coach Kwesi Appiah for the vacant Black Stars job.

Tamakloe claims Appiah was a complete failure during his first stint with the team despite a qualification to a third consecutive Fifa World Cup tournament in Brazil.

“Kwesi Appiah was a complete failure when he took over the Black Stars [in 2012] and he was sacked for non-performance so what has changed that he wants to come back?” Tamakloe told Graphic Sports.

“He lacked the ability to read through games and design proper strategies to counter his opponents during matches.

“Appiah was unable to control his players to the extent that they disregarded his instructions with impunity. Players like Michael Essien and Kevin Prince Boateng did not respect him and even at a point Essien was told to do a warm-up but he did not obey,” he added.

Goal understands that the new coach will be tasked with qualifying the Black Stars to the 2018 World Cup in Russia as well as winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon.
